Chapter Thirty-Two
While the Vanderburgs were eating their holiday feast, winter storm warnings went up for the entire Hidden Springs area. A winter storm warning meant that wintry conditions were imminent in the warning area within twenty-four hours. Forecasters expected nearly two feet of snow in the lake shore areas, with higher amounts in the mountain regions, all to take place over a period of four days. And on top of that, bitterly cold temperatures were to stay below freezing (0 C/32 F) during the entire period.
One person monitoring the weather situation carefully was Crown Prince Sebastian. He had to. As commander-in-chief of the armed forces (and the next king) it was his job to deploy troops whereever and whenever necessary. While the rest of the family was eating their grub, he was on the phone with meteorologists constantly, getting minute-by-minute updates on the deteriorating weather situation. As much as this was going to be the worst winter storm in the twins' lifetimes, it would likely be one of the worst in his, as well.
Meanwhile, the feast went on as scheduled, even with the weather soon to go downhill. Sebastian Plumb, the actor and musician who had been a great friend of the family, brought a special batch of chocolate chip cookies, made with his family's top-secret recipe. More than once Bassy, as he'd been affectionately nicknamed by his older sister, thought about marketing the Plumbs' finest. The fact that they were going on the royal feast table, however, would satisfy him for now.
Alexandra brought dinner rolls she'd actually baked herself.
Even the queen herself joined in, bringing a ratatouille dish with her.
The dinner took place at the Crown Prince's estate in the higher elevations.
